The Importance Of Making Social Media Goals For Your Business
Do you own and operate your own business? If so, here’s another question for you: Do you implement social media strategies into your business? Do you even use social media?
If you don’t use social media for your business, then you are truly missing out on a golden opportunity. Why? Well, because social media can help you gain more followers/customers, which can lead to an increase in sales. Not to mention, social media helps with the concept that is brand awareness. It can help spread the word of your company and get your message out to a larger audience.
If you have gone down the path that is setting up a social media strategy, you can’t forget to make goals. If you don’t make goals, then what’s the point? More likely than not, you are just going at Facebook, Twitter or whatever networks you use blindly. If you aren’t making goals, then you are likely just posting content … and not much else.

You have to have some form of strategy, an objective. If you are trying to gain more followers, then you not only have to keep track of that number — which is a very easy process — but you also have to put a goal in place. Are you trying to gain 100 followers? 1,000 followers? 1 million followers? It really doesn’t matter as long as you have a goal in place.
The next step is putting a date next to that goal. Do you want to gain 1,000 followers by the end of the month, quarter, year? The choice is yours, but you have to be very specific with this deadline or it likely won’t be a priority, and it likely won’t happen as a result.
No matter what your goal is, make sure your business can actually measure it. For example, you can measure things like comments, likes, followers and how many people were reached for each post on Facebook. If you put a goal in place that is not measurable, then how do you plan on reaching it? Will this supposed goal even help your business?
As is the case with all goals, you want to make sure your social media goals are challenging yet reachable. If your goal seems impossible on paper, then it is likely going to be impossible when you try to achieve it.
The point of goals is to help you and your employees stay motivated (achieving goals is a very inspiring thing), accountable and to grow your business.
Even if social media plays a small role in your business’ plan, you need to make sure you are implementing goals. Without these goals, your Facebook page won’t gain followers, your posts won’t get likes and/or comments and you likely won’t attract people to your website via social media.
Remember, social media is a very valuable tool because a single post can reach a large amount of people. Use social media to your advantage, and don’t forget to incorporate goals while you’re at it.
